“The reason you’re not successful is because you don’t want to be. And until you examine and eliminate that belief there’s nothing anybody can do for you.”

I tweeted this out the other day, as it’s been on my mind recently.

I’m fascinated by beliefs.

There is something literally magical to them.

Energy that lurks beneath, that powers us in this direction or that.

(It makes you wonder how relevant “tricks” or “techniques” even are… but we’ll save that discussion for another day.)

Once a belief takes over a person, it completely transforms their orientation in life.

A favorite example:

Walter White from Breaking Bad.

Walter was a regular old high school chemistry teacher with a wife and kid. Lived in a cookie-cutter development. No real ambition.

Until he got cancer and decided he had nothing to lose, and started making drugs for cash.

It’s funny how this tends to work. You will hold onto your bad patterns and beliefs right up until you realize you’re going to die… then suddenly it hits you. Why not do something different?

Finality makes you realize you have suppressed your potential. It wakes you out of your stupor.

And the tragedy is… most people require finality to change.

The old adage is true: youth is wasted on the young. But less because they lack wisdom but focus.

It’s easy to fuck around when you feel like you have the world ahead of you.

But the truth is you don’t.

Certainly don’t have all the advantages you have today.

You can have a better life each year, but with less free energy you’ll have to optimize more to get it.

Anyway, point is simple.

Don’t wait for a crisis to change.

Start breaking those bad beliefs now.

Will it happen overnight, like a crisis can do?

No.

But it will prime you so that in the next 3 years you’ll be a different person… versus the alternative: you realize in 20 years you hate your wife, kids, job (and most importantly: yourself) — and go through a mid-life crisis.

That said, I know it’s tough to find out why you’re stuck… and what needs to shift.

Which is where I come in.

I can’t make you walk.

(though I will push you)

But I can show which direction to face, and which obstacles to watch out for.

I can give you a map.

Which will ensure that multi-year journey to the “new you” takes less than 25% of the time it normally would.
